Born To Die: Lana Del Ray

The past couple weeks all I’ve been hearing about was Lana Del Ray. I’ve seen her videos posted on Facebook, her name trending on Yahoo’s front page and even heard about her performance on SNL. Who is she and why is she everywhere? Is she any good? Is she just another Lady Gaga clone that some record company is trying to push?

Like I do for most things I don’t know much, I turned to my trusty friends Google and YouTube to educate me. What did I discover? I now love Lana Del Ray. And in honor of Lana Del Ray’s album, Born To Die, being released today, I wanted to discuss exactly why I and everyone else at Chi Chi and The Greek adore Lana as well.

First and foremost, her music is actually good and her voice is hauntingly beautiful. But the thing that caught our attention the most was what she was wearing in her music video for Born to Die. The gorgeous long white dress and that white fringed leather jacket. Lana has this very feminine retro-glamour look, with this unique take on vintage. Lots of floral, lace, ruffles and lingerie. Considering right now our biggest fashion influences in music are the likes of Gaga, Perry and Minaj with their over the top colorful costumes…Lana is like a breath of fresh air.

From what we seen so far, we are adoring her style and can’t wait to see what else she has in store for us. We definitely recommend keeping your eyes on Lana, because we have a feeling her style will be influencing a lot more than just our mannequins at the store.

Now, is it me or does she remind you a bit of Nancy Sinatra?

Chi Chi and The Greek Hosts: F U” Cancer! Fundraiser

Kelly Johnson had experienced her own scare after finding a lump in her breast just last year. Sharing her story with her clients, she had come to discover just how many women have been through similar experiences with cancer or had a love one who was diagnosed. One client in particular, Esther Nevarez, shared the story of her friend Sally Naylor-Kern, and it inspired her to take matters into her own hands.

Enter Sally Naylor-Kern, a 39-year-old a former Waterford resident who didn’t imagine the scenario, but instead is battling with a rare form of ovarian cancer. A graduate of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Sally enjoyed a successful career as a senior producer at DraftFCB advertising agency. Last October, Sally underwent an extreme surgery to remove her tumors and restore her ability to eat. She still needs additional treatment to continue beating cancer — and her resources are running out.

Shopping is usually not at the top of your list after you or a friend is diagnosed with cancer. So, let’s give cancer the middle finger by treating yourselves to a new dress and Sally to donations to pay those bills! Join Chi Chi and the Greek from Friday, Feb. 3rd through Sunday, Feb 5th!

20% of all sales will be donated to help save the life of Sally Naylor-Kern. We will host a variety of activities all 3 days of the event: including hors d’oeuvres and a raffle for $100 Chi Chi and the Greek gift certificate each day. Emmy-nominated makeup artist, Joey Killmeyer, will be demonstrating makeup techniques on Sunday, February 5th from 12-4pm. Local jewelry designer and artist, Renee Deardeuff, will be displaying her Boo-B Dolls created just for breast cancer patients and survivors. Join us to shop, donate or come to share your story!

The event will be taking place during normal business hours.

Any questions about the event or if you would like to make a donation—other than your business—please call: (248) 255-5039 or email: kellydeux@yahoo.com.

Be sure to check out Sally’s blog: http://sallysaysfucancer.com/. If we work together, we can make a difference in Sally’s life! Thank you for your support!

Madonna Never Ceases to Amaze Us

Okay, so we’re kind of completely obsessed with Madonna…again. Love her or hate her, you have to admit that she is a great entertainer, badass, and an icon. It all started with seeing Madonna win at the ‘Golden Globes’ last week. And as it always seems, where Madonna is you can usually find some trouble. Earlier on the red carpet, Elton John supposedly said that Madonna had ‘no f***ing chance of wining’ an award because no one has seen or even heard of her new movie.

Wait. Madonna has a new movie? Yep! And it’s glorious!

Looking back at her cinematic choices over the years, her movies were either always a hit or a miss. However, her new movie in which she is the directed and co-wrote, W.E., looks incredible. First of all, if you haven’t heard about it, you can watch the trailer here. The greatest love story of the 20th century? Sold! Absolutely beautiful clothing from the 1930’s? I’m already counting down the hours until the release date!

For those whole don’t now, the film is basically about the story of how King Edward VIII’s gave up the British throne for the woman he loved, Wallis Simpson. There is also another story within the movie taking place in 1998 about a young woman, Wally Winthrop, who researches the story behind Wallis and Edward all while dealing with her own personal obstacles in romance. The film will be released February 3rd, how is this not the perfect Valentine’s Day date movie?

But of everything, I think we’re most excited for the costumes. Madonna is no stranger to fashion, and she hired her personal stylist, Arianne Phillips, as the costume director. From the trailer and the movie stills, we are already in love and haven’t been able to stop talking about the wardrobe. The colors, the silhouette, and the patterns have been immensely influencing at Chi Chi and The Greek right now, and we know it will be influencing the fashion industry just as well and we’re ready!

Also, did you know that Madonna will also be performing the halftime show for the Superbowl this year? I don’t think we’ve been this excited for a sporting event in well…ever. This woman never stops, and we love it!
